EVERYTHING OTT
Perhaps an underrated or underused term, Over-the-top (OTT) has all it takes to be called a ‘big tree with many branches’.
Let’s start with a branch, OTT Technology, which simply refers to technologies, platforms or channels that ensure easy access to content that can be streamed directly over the internet instead of through traditional channels such as television, radio etc.
Examples of platforms and services that use OTT technology abound, many of them being subscription-based channels such as Netflix, Disney+, ESPN+, Prime, Hotstar, HBO, Hulu, Amazon etc.
This takes us to OTT Content, which simply refers to content that comes from OTT platforms and can be viewed on multiple devices such as computers, mobile devices, over-the-top devices and more. OTT devices by the way are devices that can be used to access or consume OTT content and (these devices)do not fall under the category of Desktops, Laptops or Mobiles.
Examples are Smart TVs, Apple TVs, Playstation, Xbox, Chromecast, Amazon etc.
Another term we need to get a good grasp on in the OTT revolution is CTV (Connected TV) and IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Users, these are individuals or organizations that use TV sets connected to the internet through in-built internet connectivity (SMART TV) or through other devices with STB (set-top box) functionalities, gaming consoles or Blu-ray players.
Finally, OTT messaging includes platforms such as WhatsApp, WeChat, Messenger, Facebook etc. while OTT audio applications are music streaming services (such as Spotify, Podcast etc) and audio sharing platforms such as SoundCloud.
EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO WITH OTT TECHNOLOGY
FOR BROADCASTING STATIONS: HOW TO REACH WIDER AUDIENCES WITH OTT TECHNOLOGY
TV and Radio stations can massively take advantage of OTT by giving access to millions of consumers and audience all over the world to access their content
(who may not be naturally able to do so via terrestrial and even satellite channels, but can surely do so over the internet).
In other words, welcome to Internet Radio stations. Welcome to Connected Televisions (CTV) and welcome to IPTV (Internet Protocol TV).
OTT Technology Offers Wide Coverage and Availability to Broadcasting Stations
OTT breaks distance barriers for both broadcasters and consumers. As someone who wants to build a career in broadcasting or start a radio station, you can become ‘borderless’ and reach listeners all over the world, with no geographical limitations involved.
OTT offers Minimal Requirements
With very few affordable professional audio gadgets (which you can always check out on https://holoceneinnovations.com/product-category/professional-audio/), you can launch your OTT-powered radio station.

But does minimum-requirement opportunity exclude those who have dreams to produce audiovisual content for TV?
No, OTT still got you covered with TVU. Citing from one of our previous articles, TVU is an “array of technology solutions that help transform broadcasting operations such as acquisition, transmission, routing, distribution and management into an IP-based infrastructure”. https://holoceneinnovations.com/2023/03/14/can ip-streaming-with-tvu-pack/

MORE TO COME
OTT Technology surely does sound mouth-watering already.
But wait till you get to know how you can apply this awe-mazing innovative tech in other domains such as faith-based organizations, schools, NGOs and many more.
To keep this article sufficiently mouth-watering, yet not more than a mouthful, we’d save the best for the last as we share more awesome ready-to-use applications of OTT Technology in the next and final instalment of this 2-part series.
